In 2023 the government introduced a fare equality policy where travel on all public transport throughout Victoria is now capped at $10 for an adult (cheaper for concessions). This is a huge outcome for both those living in the regions and for Melbournians wanting to explore the state by the good public transport system.

In light of this we have designed a series of adventures for Melbournians using the cheap public transport to get around.

If you live elsewhere in the state it should be possible to still use public transport if you live on or near a regular Vline service.

A myki card or paper ticket is required for all travel on these trips. The maximum full adult fare for a single day of travelling is capped at $10.

Victoria enjoys a Mediterranean-type climate with hot summers, mild spring and autumn, and cool to cold winters. Because of this it is possible to travel all year round, even in winter which while cold can still have nice sunny days.

The main impact to travel will be extreme heat days where you should reconsider travel, particularly days with high fire danger warnings. You should not travel on any Code Red days.

Mobile coverage can drop out in some areas but while in or around towns you should have no problems. There are places along the public transport routes where mobile coverage will drop out.
